What are Bio-Plastics

Bio-based plastics are made from renewable biological sources like corn, sugarcane, or algae. They are designed to replace traditional fossil-fuel-based plastics with a more sustainable alternative. A common example is Bio-PE (Polyethylene), which is chemically identical to regular PE but made from sugarcane instead of petroleum.

More Info

Biodegradable plastics are designed to break down naturally into water, carbon dioxide, and biomass under specific conditions. These plastics decompose through the action of microorganisms. A well-known example is PLA (Polylactic Acid), made from fermented plant starch and compostable in industrial composting facilities.

Why Bio-Plastics

Some bioplastics are both bio-based and biodegradable. These offer the benefits of being made from renewable sources and breaking down naturally. An example is PHA (Polyhydroxyalkanoates), produced by microorganisms and capable of biodegrading in natural environments like soil and water.
